Our Gardens & Outdoor Learning Spaces
At Little Stars Childcare, we believe that outdoor play is just as important as indoor learning.
We’re incredibly lucky to have a range of beautiful outdoor spaces, including our large main garden, a dedicated under 2’s play area, and our exciting Forest School Log Cabin. These areas offer endless opportunities for children to explore, imagine, and discover - helping them build confidence, develop physical skills, and connect with the natural world.
Under 2’s Garden — Safe, Shaded & Full of Discovery
Our under 2’s garden is a calm, stimulating space designed especially for babies and toddlers.
It’s filled with age-appropriate toys and equipment that encourage sensory exploration, movement, and early curiosity.
Children can enjoy:
A soft sandpit for digging and pouring
A small playhouse for imaginative play
A water station for splashing and experimenting
Thanks to its high surrounding walls, this garden stays beautifully shaded during the summer, making it the perfect spot for safe outdoor play on warm days.
When the sun shines, our babies love cooling off in the paddling pools, giggling and splashing to their hearts’ content!
Main Garden — Adventure & Movement
Our main garden, designed for children aged two and above, is a world of fun and adventure.
Here, children are encouraged to challenge themselves physically, develop coordination, and build strength through play.
This space includes:
Bikes, balance bikes, and micro-scooters
Construction bricks, ramps, and loose parts for building
A slide and climbing wall for active exploration
We keep the garden open all day for free-flow play, allowing children to move freely between indoors and outdoors as they choose.
This independence helps build decision-making skills, confidence, and a natural love for being active.
Forest School - Learning Through Nature
Our purpose-built Forest School Log Cabin is the heart of our outdoor learning approach.
Led by our qualified Forest School Leader, children take part in small group sessions (6–10 children at a time) following a 1:4 adult-to-child ratio, ensuring safety while they experience real hands-on learning.
Here, our children:
Build and light real fires safely
Use real tools under supervision
Cook lunch on the fire pit
Explore the outdoors and connect deeply with nature
These sessions encourage teamwork, independence, problem-solving, and resilience - helping children build the confidence and practical life skills they’ll carry with them forever.
Outdoor Play in All Weathers
We go outside in all seasons and all kinds of weather - from sunny adventures to splashing in puddles and exploring crunchy autumn leaves. Experiencing nature in different conditions helps children develop an appreciation for the world around them and supports their emotional well-being.
We kindly ask parents to provide appropriate seasonal clothing - coats, boots, hats, and gloves - but don’t worry if you forget - we always have plenty of spare waterproofs and wellies so every child can enjoy the great outdoors, rain or shine.
At Little Stars childcare, our gardens are more than just play spaces - they’re magical environments where children can learn, grow, and connect with nature every single day.
